China: Raffles City Chongqing
The southwest China city of Chongqing has been a tourist favourite and will now have a spectacular new multi-billion dollar mall featuring the worlds highest sky bridges. Raffles City Chongqing is expected to open in the 2H of 2019 and will feature 450 shops, including the flagship retail outlets of China including NIO, CGV, Yanjiyou and Ole’. The area is located on Chaotianmen at the junction of Yangtze and Jialing rivers in Yuzhong District.
The building was designed by Safdie Architects of Boston, Massachusetts with P & T Group International Ltd
The opening of the 1.12 million square metre just finished the eight and final tower along with the 250 meters high sky bridge known as the Crystal will link six of the Raffles City Chongqing’s eight skyscrapers according to plans featured in e-architect UK.

One tenant will be NGO which specialises in electric vehicles and will have its largest outlet featuring a showroom at 1,500 square metres and will also be an exclusive clubhouse for NIO vehicle owners.
The well-known movie theatre group CGV will be operating its new national flagship theatre at Raffles City featuring a 5,600 square metre multiplex with state-of-the-art screens high quality sound systems.
Also having a flagship store in the mall is bookstore chain Yanjiyou that will have a café and other 'creative and experiential offerings catering to bibliophiles.'
Fine foods favourite Ole’ will have a gourmet supermarket and food hall serving a wide range of produce and international food and specialties.
To promote the regions 3,000 year culture and history a zone will be dedicated and providing Made in Chongqing products from local delicacies to other products. This was a proposal by local residents that the Raffles City embraced.
The Raffles City eight skyscrapers will be occupying 9.2 hectares with 235,000 square metres for the shopping mall, 150,000 square metres of Grade A office space and 1,400 apartment residences. Hotel accommodations include Ascott Raffles City serviced residences and a new InterContinental Raffles City Chongqing hotel. The total construction floor area as reported in e-architect to be 1.12 million square metres.Two of the towers will be 350-metres tall one of which will now become the tallest residential skyscraper in China. The six other towers will be at a height of 250 metres with a 'ninth floor' or 'horizontal floor' being Crystal sky bridge, the worlds highest, measuring 300 meters in length 32.5 m in width and 26.5 m in height. Parking spaces for 3,200 vehicles will be available.
For visitors The Crystal will have a viewing gallery, gardens, infinity pool and restaurants. In the evening a giant light beam will perform a light show in the night sky.
The steel structure of The Crystal weighs 12,000 tons enclosed with a ring of 3000 window panels and 5,000 aluminium panels.
